Robuddies

A 3D Puzzle Platformer where two robots find themselves lost in a strange factory and must use their unique talents to work together and find freedom!

Awarded “Most Fun”, “Best Level Design” and “Best 3D Art” in the GJL Game Parade Spring 2021 game jam.

Roles & Responsibilities

Collaboration

  • Worked in a team of 7, including designers, programmers and artists.

  • The game was made for the GJL Game Parade Spring 2021 game jam where we were nominated for six awards, winning three.

  • Took on multiple secondary roles where there was an absence of skill in the team. This includes Logo Design, UI Design, Sound Design, Music Production and Animation.

Games Design

  • Lead the game design pre-production and conceptualised the abilities for both robots.

  • Implemented, iterated and improved upon mechanics in engine using Blueprints.

    • I largely helped with the physics and implementation of the Rolling Character. My other priorities focused on polishing and making the characters and mechanics feel fun as well as implementing some traps and puzzles.

  • Worked with the Character Artist to implement, animate and construct the character models in engine.

    • Helped build and move the separate parts of both Character models, using Blueprints to moving and rotate static meshes. As we had no animator this fulfilled that role and helped improve the overall game aesthetic and feel.

  • Designed and Implemented Audio and Music created using Ableton Live specifically for the Game Jam.

Level Design

  • Designed and built the main level for the game.

    • The level was designed to fully utilise both robots abilities, requiring the player to use both to solve puzzles in collaboration.

    • Robuddies won the game jam’s award for “Best Level Design”.

  • Blocked-out, Meshed and Lit the level in-engine.

    • I would often discuss and present my ideas to the 3D Environment Artist during this time to ensure we maximised the assets.
