Wonderful World
A collaborative project made for Global Games Jam 2020. For the theme “Repair” we made a post-apocalyptic farming simulator, focusing on rebuilding the world by growing various plants and inviting survivors to the shelter.
Collaboration
As my first games jam project I had a lot to learn. Working with new people and under very tight time constraints really pushed communication and team working skills to the limit. Collaborating on projects like has improved my ability to work fast and with others.
Level Design
I was tasked with creating the wastelands. The wastelands are a scattered maze of pipes. Intense, irradiated sandstorms cloud the players vision. Hidden in the wastelands there is a beautiful oasis that can provide a brief respite from the aggressive desert storm.
I also designed, meshed and lit the interior of the base.
Games Design
The wastelands are the place where players must go to scavenge seeds to grow plants. I added a timer based survival countdown whilst in the wastelands to simulate the risk of radiation. This would also reduce the amount of time players can harvest crops.
The player must rest by spending time at the base before returning to the wastelands. A player’s health regenerates while in safe areas like this and oasis.
