Bullet Hell Prototype
A prototype for a chaotic, co-operative bullet hell game. Inspired by Japanese arcade bullet hell games like DonPachi and Bastsugun.
Weapons & Enemies
The weapons were designed to feel fast, responsive and devastating. Bullet hell games excel at giving players incredibly powerful weaponry but also confronting them with chaotic and punishing enemies.
There are three primary weapon types. The Gunner shoots bullets, and gets additional spread shot at higher levels. The Lazer Gunner gets a piercing lazer weapon that also gains spread shot at higher levels. The Shotgunner shoots large, slow projectiles that split on impact, splintering into a chaotic spread of bullets.
Moving Camera
Bullet hell games almost always feature a camera that moves forward constantly. The camera for this prototype was set up to move independent of the character, and its speed and distance covered could be edited easily for use in multiple maps.
Special Abilities
The prototype also features a variety of additional features for a player including shields, bombs and missiles.
